Audi has announced 1.16-million vehicles are being recalled worldwide for a possible fire risk.
This is actually the second time the same set of vehicles are being recalled. The first time was in January 2017, when Audi tried to resolve the issue by updating the software on the affected vehicles, but it appears that wasn’t effective. The recall involves a coolant pump that might pose a fire risk due to moisture issues, or if it gets blocked with debris from the coolant system.
Affected vehicles include the 2013-2017 Audi A5 and Q5, the 2013-2016 Audi A4 sedan and Allroad, and 2012-2015 Audi A6. Only vehicles powered by the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine are affected.

According to the German automaker, the electric coolant pump could overheat or short-circuit, potentially causing a fire. No injuries or crashes related to the issue have been reported. Of the 1.16-million vehicles affected worldwide, 342,000 units are in the U.S.
Audi hasn’t announced when parts will become available to address the recall, but dealers will replace the pumps free of charge.
